It's a thematic piece about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. And that war is about the invasion of Earth and all of humanity is threatened.
The Host is the story of Earth having just been invaded by an invisible enemy who takes human bodies as hosts, taking over their minds while the bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed.
And that is the latest film adaptation of a Stephenie Meyer book, called The Host.
It's directed by Andrew Niccol (GATTACA, IN TIME), and stars Saoirse Ronan (HANNA, THE LOVELY BONES, ATONEMENT), Jake Abel (I AM NUMBER FOUR, PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS), Max Irons (RED RIDING HOOD), William Hurt (INTO THE WILD, THE INCREDIBLE HULK), and Diane Kruger (INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, UNKNOWN).
