'The Boondock Saints' Graphic Novel, 'In Nomine Patris:' A Review!

I was given the special opportunity to review a great graphic novel, titled Boondock Saints In Nomine Patris and I have to tell you, if you loved the movies, you WILL love this graphic novel.  This graphic novel does not rehash anything, but rather, it accents what we already know with some fantastic background filler.

If you've seen The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (Check out my review of The Boondock Saints II), you know what happens there.  In Boondock Saints In Nomine Patris, we see a different side of that telling, while we are also shown the background of how the original saint, Noah MacManus (Il Duce) came to do what he does best and how he got that nickname.

We actually get three stories that interweave throughout the book.

We get to see the Brothers MacManus in action, back in Ireland, before they board the boat to Boston (in the movie).

We watch Noah MacManus, the night before they go visit "The Old Man" (in the movie) as the brothers ask him about his old days.  (So this is sort of two tales in one... them hanging out before they go visit the "old man" and the telling of Noah's origins, along with us seeing how the "old man" came to know and betray Noah, back in 1960's New York.

We get to see when "the vest" gets created and why.  Damn!!!

As an earlier press release made note, this is the perfect companion to the movies. And dang, if for once, a press release actually spouts factual truth!

What tickles me is that this graphic novel's title is THE BOONDOCK SAINTS, VOL. 1 TP: "In Nomine Patris."  It's the "Volume 1" that got me jazzed up!

This comic embodies the movies and does not hold back from the form, style and substance that fans have come to love about The Boondock Saints franchise.  And because it's based on characters and a setting we already are familiar with, it just is that much more exciting to experience these new stories.  In fact, know the style and substance of the movies, that same feel makes the comic pop out and seems to have much more substance than most comics.

And what's more exciting, is the anticipation that in this format, fans could possibly get more stories about their beloved Saints in future titles.  Need I say more?

If you loved the movies, you'll love this comic adaptation.  I guarantee it!  And in case you're worried about the actual writing, don't!  The story comes from the man himself, Troy Duffy and comic scribe J.B. Love.

A big thanks goes out to producer Eben Matthews from INNFUSION for sending me my preview copy of this, and the one-up episodic comic, The Boondock Saints: The Lost Gig, where we get some Rocco action!
