'MM9' Review (A Book about Kaiju!)

If you're wondering what MM9 is, don't fret.  You did not miss any new kaiju movie or such.  It's actually a book written by Hiroshi Yamamoto, translated by Nathan Collins and distributed by VIZ Media.

It's rated Teen and is a quick and fun read.  Simple to digest and because if that, it was just a pure pleasure to peruse.

In a nutshell, MM9 is short for "Monster Magnitude 9" and is set in a world where giant monsters happen.  They exist.  In fact they're about as frequent as earthquakes and have their own scale.  Hence, the MM9 scale, which is the top of the scale.

The book reminded me, or gave me the feeling that this world will probably by like the world in Guillermo del Toro‘s upcoming movie, Pacific Rim.

For me, it was a fun lunch-time (break) read because I am a kaiju fan...  and though we never hear the names Godzilla, Gamera or the like, you just "know" that they're somewhere in the mindset of the author as we experience this story.

I especially enjoyed the author's take on the laws of physics that define the giant monsters and how they're made possible to live in our world of "Big Bang" laws of nature.
