Today I hit up the movie John Carter. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did. No, it was not an awe-inspiring movie, but neither did it ruin my day.
It started out with a bit of history of the peoples of Mars, then we snapped to 1800's New York and start to follow John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) in his days on Earth, before he discovered Mars.
We the follow the story of John Carter discovering the world of Mars and we watch him evolve from a man who fights for no one to a man with a cause.
I think franchise fans will probably not be disappointed and there was more story than I was expecting. But that's not a bad thing and despite a few moments of 'huh?' in the story, it was a good story.
I only had a few issues and one of them was Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). I could not decide just what her character's personality was. She seemed a bit bi or tri-polar, but not in a bad way.
There was humor and it wasn't overdone... and there were one or two solid emotional moments that connected with something in me.
For me, it was a great two+ hours of quiet, down time away from the grind of life and I don't feel like I wasted my money. (2D viewing)
If I were to get grabbed by some friends and asked if I would go see John Carter again, I would not be adverse to that idea.
