This is a quickie episode recap of The Walking Dead Episode titled "Better Angels" and it was a doozy!
SPOILERS for the time-shifted viewers
In "Better Angels," fans of the comic franchise already knew events from this episode were much overdue, and for fans who heard about what the comic franchise fans knew, this was no surprise either.
But to see what unfolded in this episode gave us true anticipatory anxiety attack.
The episode started with the group mourning the passing of Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) and cruising the countryside, cleansing it of walkers while venting their frustration from Dale's passing.
Hershel is letting everyone pull back into the farm house but Shane (Jon Bernthal) is being Shane while Rick (Andrew Lincoln) has made it clear they're letting their prisoner, Randall, go.
But Shane has other plans and takes Randall out into the woods and later tells the group Randall attacked him and made off with his gun.
The search ensues, with Rick and Shane headed off in one direction, Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Glenn (Steven Yuen) in another...
Daryl and Glenn find Randall stumbling around as a zombie (??) and after putting him down, Daryl does what he's good at... tracking Randall's day, as it was.
He soon discovers the truth of the matter... that Shane walked him out to the woods and snapped his neck. But the zombie Randall had no bites on him, so pondered how he got that way.
But what we all were expecting all season, finally started to play out.
Rick and Shane are in a field and Rick knows what's up, as he holsters his gun and faces Shane... and calls him on the act he's about to commit, because it seems that Shane's only answer to his dilemma is to kill Rick so he can protect the group properly.
The scene plays out in a beautifully epic and tragic setting of a moonlit scene, the two men, silhouetted by the moon.
It was epic and inevitable as Rick puts Shane down, ending his tragic downward spiral.
And yet, while Rick is suffering at the fate that forced his hand, his young son, Carl, shows up, pointing a gun at Rick. And then Shane's zombie gets up and Carl puts him down. (??)
But this is not the end of the evening, for the gun shots have attracted what's in the woods, and that is what's left for next week's season finale of The Walking Dead, titled "Beside the Dying Fire."
??: Is it me, or did I miss something? Are are our characters turning into zombies on their own after they die? The only thing I can think of is remembering back towards when there was a zombie in the well and he somehow infected the drinking water just enough to create this scenario. I haven't read the comics, so I'm sure franchise fans may know what's up for real. Or is the infection now a worldwide event? That one does not need to be bitten to turn?
Anyway, awesome episode, with just one more to go for the season! See ya'all next week for my season finale review of The Walking Dead.
