In theses contract negotiation issues, I don't know who to believe. With DISH/AMC I can see DISH being sneaky. They use employees or hired guns to "spam" comment sections of websites. My own site has been victim to that. But on the other hand I've also seen interesting opinion pieces from the TV industry on how AMC doesn't know how to handle success from shows like Breaking Bad and they make bad decisions sometimes. So you be the judge there.
Now Viacom is squaring off with DirecTV in their contract negotiations.
In both of theses cases, what sucks is that the end-consumer loses out as the distributor drops the entertainment from their lineup. Check out what MTV has to say about the situation...
DIRECTV DROPS
VIACOM CHANNELSWe are deeply disappointed that DirecTV dropped Viacom's channels before the Tuesday midnight deadline, severing our connection with its nearly 20 million subscribers nationwide.
DirecTV dropped the channels without giving Viacom advanced warning. The last time Viacom was contacted by DirecTV was at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning and no new ideas were offered for resolution at that time. In fact, the last proposal DirecTV had made was lower than anyone else pays in the industry, and a deal we said we would not do out of fairness to other distributors.
We proposed a fair deal and we remained willing to negotiate that deal right up to Tuesday's deadline. However, DirecTV refused to engage in meaningful conversation. We are hopeful that DirecTV will work with us toward a resolution and stop denying its subscribers access to the networks they watch most. We are ready to talk at any time.
We will keep you updated on our progress and encourage you to make your voice heard to DirecTV.
