'Guardians of the Galaxy' - WIll Vin Diesel be Voicing Groot? (updated)

Some time back Vin Diesel had been messing with the masses with various stunts on his Facebook page...  first up was posting images of The Vision from The Avengers... but then after a day or so he pulled it down.

It had people wondering.

Then he posted a quickie blurb a bit later about a meeting he had in the Marvel Entertainment offices... but said he couldn't say anything.

Tease...

Now he's posted a pic for a short time on his Facebook page once again... of Groot, from the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Well... does this mean what some folks are conjecturing it means?  Or is this just another random posting of Vin's, yet again.

If he did land the voice role of Groot, folks are wondering why it wasn't announced at the D23 Expo.  But hey, folks are scrambling to be the first to say the right thing.  Yet if all Groot says is "I am Groot," what a total waste of Vin Diesel's talents.  But hey, it is what it is.

If it's not one thing I learned... from a great man, the late but wonderful David Poole, he once told me it's better to be correct than be first.  It helps your readers learn to trust who you are and what you're about.

UPDATE: "Boom!"  Two hours after this post, Deadline is reporting that Vin Diesel is in talks for the role, according to their sources.  (Who ever that might be.  Deadline sometimes has interesting processes and "sources").  No, I'm not taking the credit... the credit could go to the link a few paragraphs up.

Vin Diesel confirmed in an interview with the LA Times that he's voicing the character of Groot.

When asked why, he more or less said "I’m an actor. I can do whatever the … I want. As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice. And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations."

He also addressed the premise of time on his hands, or lack thereof, and how this role would allow him to be able to pull off the role and have a piece in the Marvel Universe.

I think that this is also a good move, politically, for Vin, to start networking within the halls of Marvel.  I expect cool things between Marvel and Vin Diesel somewhere down the road.
