'Lone Ranger' Loses Money, Cast Blames Critics

Supposedly Disney will be losing a huge chunk of their investment in The Lone Ranger remake that was directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.

I'm guessing they can bite the bullet a bit considering they have stellar cash bags with the Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar franchises.  Jeeze.

But despite the loss, Depp and Hammer were blaming critics reviews of the movie for the box office loss.  They claimed that critics jumped on the bandwagon to try and bash the film.

On one hand, they're (Depp and Hammer) seem to be showing solidarity with Disney.  It's part of the business.

But this new statement of theirs, blaming critics, is something else.  I've lost a bit of respect for this baseless statement.

Why baseless?

Westerns are always a hard sell, period. But more importantly, think about it...

How many fan-favorite movies that you know of that have been panned hard by critics, and yet, destroy the box office?

One that comes to mind, is the Transformers film franchise.

I'm just saying.  It's a bit disappointing to see these guys redirect the blame rather than just owning up to whatever happened at the box office.

They need to give more credit to movie fans, and their ability to work off of word-of-mouth and other factors that drive audiences to the movie theater.  As it stands, over 30k fans chimed in on IMDb and given the movie a 6.7.  That's something to consider.
