For some reason Sharknado resonated with Twitter. Like a horrible train wreck, people couldn't 'not look.'
The first time it aired, on July 11, it pulled in 1.4 million viewers. On July 18th, because of the noise this movie made on Twitter, the Asylum TV movie netted another 1.9M viewers. The latest encore airing on Syfy pulled in a whopping 2.1M viewers.
OK, this is a Syfy crapsation of a movie. But what's new. That's the fun of these popcorn TV movies. It has hurricanes in Los Angeles, flying sharks that were sucked up by the storm and Ian Ziering swishing his chain saw in the air, slicing flying sharks in half! Other cast includes Tara Reid, John Heard, Cassie Scerbo and other fantasticly talented actors!
Despite the horror if the movie being so bad, it has set all kinds of viewership ratings for Syfy.
And it will air one more time on the net, on August 27th. So buy your popcorn, beer, or hard liquor and check it out. If you get the alcohol and friends together, it will make it more fun.
But wait... there's more.
Now that it's been on TV, there will be special midnight screenings of Sharknado in over 200 select Regal theaters nationwide on Friday, August 2. Yep, they're taking it to the street, and so doing, Regal DARE compare this to the phenom that was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now they're just crossing into sacrilege as they compare it to a classic midnight movie, hoping to draw more people into this event of brain suckage!
But wait, that's not all.
Soon, you'll start seeing merchandise on the shelves of your favorite stores for Sharknado.
But how bad is this sensational TV movie that Syfy claims is a public sensation?
On IMDb, with almost 5,000 votes, it has a User Rating of 3.8/10. One of the worse ratings I've ever seen for a Syfy TV movie.
On the other hand, this is a refreshing take for the production company of Sharnado, The Asylum.
If you think that production company name sounds familiar, it is. The Asylum is responsible for such crap knock off movies as, wait for it... and sit down and stop drinking anything:
- and some of my personal favorites to be disgusted by:
and my all time anti-favorite,
Asylum is known for the knock off and super cheaply produced movies... and they make money doing this, with almost 300 movies to their credit.
So this Sharknado crap is a nice change of pace coming from them.
Oh, and the sequel, Sharknado 2, production is getting underway, getting ready for a July 2014 premiere.
Yep... that's that. My head hurts. Oh.. wait... I just realized that there's worse things on TV than Syfy's Sharknado. Really! Come on, can you name at least one show that competes to make Sharknado look good?
OK... one of the biggest crap-fests I can think of is Honey Boo Boo.... then Toddlers and Tiaras. That is some serious crap and the list is bigger than you think.
