Quickly on the movie and cast:
To be honest I think everyone cast did a great job in their specific roles, considering the franchise and how it's been repeatedly pumped out to movie theaters every x years.
Of note, the UK's Henry Cavill does the role of Superman justice. The way Christopher Nolan wrote the story, jumping from present to past, instead of making us suffer through a chronological retelling of Clark Kent/Kal-el upbringing was a nice thing to do for fans who have seen the same origin over and over and over.
Michael Shannon as General Zod was perfection of casting.
Nor did I mind the fathers played by Ruseell Crowe and Kevin Costner. It's fascinating to see that both dads have, in their past, both played Robin Hood.
This is less a complaint and more of a sigh, but I'm not sure who could play Lois Lane well enough to make that character stand out. Amy Adams did well enough playing the nosy reporter and how Nolan wrote the story in showing how some folks know who Superman is was a nice touch.

While watching the movie on blu-ray, I did notice a few interesting Easter Eggs throughout.
First, during the fight with Zod, Kal-El and Zod play catch with a large communications satellite. Did you catch the Wayne Enterprises logo on the side of it?
-
Lexcorp gear shows up a few times in the film. Most notably as a fuel truck that gets ping-ponged around by Superman and his super-powered adversary.
-
In the scout ship that was under the ice, did you notice that of the four pods for pilots, three had skeletons, and one was open and empty?
There's interesting potential with that one, that's for sure. Considering the scout ship was under the ice for 20,000 years.

When Zod (climbing up a building) and Superman (Flying down that building) slam into each other, in the background you might have caught a Blaze Comics sign in the background before getting lost in the fight.
Blaze Comics is what Booster Gold appears in, in the Superman world.
-
Watch for a construction site sign during the fights. (If that's possible!)
Superman gets slammed into a sign that references 106 days since the last accident. As Supers hits it, the 1 and 6 fall off, resetting it to 0, considering he just slammed into the site.

Those were just the obvious eye-ball catchers I saw. I know there are more, quite subtle things out there, but these were the obvious ones to me.
CBM site called out a few quickie eggs that you'd have to be watching very closely for.
STAR LABS (Cyborg?);
There's a Watchmen promo poster in one scene;
A poster that says Keep Calm and Call Batmen;
They say that a power up under Zod's ship had a triangular formation, as a nod to Brainiac (stretch?);
WGBS News Sign... Is owned by Morgan Edge... an agent of Darkseid.

The blu-ray extras included in-depth coverage of the background of characters and Clark's journey within the story, a lengthy piece on the exercise regime everyone was put on for 6 months prior to filming and a quickie animated homage to the 75 years of Superman.
The 2nd disc had a special called Creating Man of Steel. In it, they play the movie and have some behind-the-scenes material playing alongside, with visual effects tests, interviews and such.
It's good and/or distracting. I'd rather have the content up front and not stuck into a rather long movie. But that's must me.
There's also a "documentary" on Kryptonian life.
All in all, if you're a fan, the package is a worthy buy. I'm pleased, that's for sure.
