Marvel Movies Ranked, So Far, To Date

Phase 1 Marvel movies Iron Man, Thor, Avengers, Captain America

I saw a post about ranking all the Marvel movies on one site and as I looked around the web, I noticed just how many different sites have their own, older lists.

The one thing I hate about "rankings" from most sites is that these lists are usually just one person's opinion and that devalues the list to me. If they had run a survey that had several hundred to thousand replies, then maybe I'd consider it. But lists by an individual is just not that happening for me.

But...

Phase 2 Marvel movies, Iron Man 2, Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Avengers 2

If you were to ask me, I had an emotional high from watching the first Iron Man movie, the first Avengers film and an intellectual understanding of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Why the highs and intellectual reactions? Iron Man showed brain and brawn, with 'tude. The Avengers pulled everyone together in such a sublimely wonderful story that you did not mind the abundance of humor and action.

The real backbone to the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be the stories within the Captain America movies, where the meat of the character developments are taking place with Cap and the infrastructure of SHIELD, the government and the Avengers takes place. Avengers 2 was a slug fest of fun, but it had some glaring over-sights and almost too much of that quirky humor. But background developments take center stage nearly within the stories of the Cap movies.

I liked the obscurely popular Ant-Man. It had story.

I was not fond of the first Thor film, but it grew on me over time.

I walked out of Iron Man 3 completely pissed off at director Shane Black for fucking over The Mandarin's character, but over time, came to appreciate the story that was about Tony Stark being able to face his foes without his armor. Much like many of his classic clashes with The Mandarin. (I've always said that what Black did to The Mandarin was akin to making Lex Luthor some two-bit homeless guy.)

I had zero expectations of Guardians of the Galaxy but came out of the movie thinking I just saw this generations feel-good, Star Wars-like movie.

But again, all just my own opinions about these flicks, and that, in and of itself, is the subjective take of this writer. I was just inspired to toss this out there.

Now... it's time for phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! That includes Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man, Thor 3, Avengers Infinity War, pts 1 and 2, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans.
