Why I think Glenn Is Not Dead on 'The Walking Dead' (I can hope, right?)

Why I think Glenn Is Not Dead on 'The Walking Dead'

So obviously all of this is conjecture and if I accidentally create spoilers looking back at this... for for the time-shifted viewers who have not seen any of the last two episodes of The Walking Dead yet, ('Thank You' and 'Here Not Here'), sorry.

-

Two weeks ago on The Walking Dead we watched Nicolas kill himself and his inert body fall forward, knocking Glenn off of a safe perch and into the arms of hungry walkers. The subsequent scene showed Glenn looking in shock as the hoard swooped in, eating, with blood pooling out around Glenn's head.

For all intensive purposes, it seemed as if Glenn has met his end.

Being in denial, I would like to list the bullet points that help me support my premise as to why Glenn is not dead in The Walking Dead.

- When Nicolas knocked Glenn off the dumpster, both bodies fell to the ground into the walker hoard. One could argue that Nick's body was above Glenn's and when they landed, Nick's body could be on top of Glenn's, shielding him.

- The eating death scene was edited in such a way that we only saw the backs of walkers eating on something. We did not see them tearing at Glenn's body specifically.

- The pooling blood could be Nick's and Glenn's facial expression could be one of horror or shock or even resignation that he would seem to be totally screwed as we watch guts being pulled out of a body. But were those Glenn's guts or Nick's?

- On The Talking Dead, during their 'In Memoriam' section of the show, they always show the name of the deceased in their recap scenes. They even name the walkers that die in the previous episode. They did not show Glenn's name. Only a question.

In the subsequent week's episode of The Walking Dead, fans were hoping for answers, but were dealt the disservice of the show focusing a 90-minute episode on Morgan's (Lennie James) journey from when we last saw him in an earlier season to today's time line in the show. (But to be fair, they have been forwarding the different parts of the different stories in leap-frog fashion.

- The opening credits for 'Here's Not Here' did not have Steven Yeun's name in them. I have never seen a series pull the name of a deceased character's actor from a season credit list. Is this a fake out to mess with us?

- I can hope IMDb is correct when they show Yeun's name in the credits for subsequent episodes of the season... but that could mean nothing.

On the downside of things... (ACTUAL POTENTIAL SPOILERS)

I expected Glenn to die last season.

This expectation comes from what the readers of the comic book source material have noted, in that he should have died during past events. But he did not. Then again, Rick still has two hands. And Daryl never existed in the comic.

The show has diverged from the comics to some degree, much like how Marvel has diverged the movie universe a bit from the actual comic sources.

The earlier points are my points of hope that Glenn is still around. But man, that scene with walkers pulling out entrails while above him do look bad!

PS/Off Topic: I would hope that AMC takes a page from FX's book and starts giving us more extended episodes of The Walking Dead. For any fan of Sons of Anarchy, the last few seasons of the series saw 75 and 90 minute episodes of the show. And it was fantastic. I'd love to see AMC do the same. We need it.
