The Legend of Tarzan:
Despite the few attempts at a successful film presence, this time around might have some hope. The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s “True Blood”) as Tarzan, the legendary character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
It also stars Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction,” the “Captain America” films), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond,” “Gladiator”), John Hurt (“The Elephant Man,” the “Harry Potter” films), Jim Broadbent (“Iris”), and Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained”).
The other piece of hope that I am holding out is that it is being directed by David Yates (the final four “Harry Potter” films, upcoming “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”).
THE ONE THING I see that they may have changed up a bit for this film is that they seem to be making Tarzan a friend of the animal kingdom once again. (When I read the 24-book series as a youth, I had been shocked to learn that this Tarzan was not my cartoon character, but rather, a predator that kills anything in his way. But just maybe, this friendlier version will work with movie-goers this time around.)
The story goes as follows: It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
Here's the teaser and second movie trailer:
If you don't have the time, the second one covers the same ground as the teaser, while adding more of the back story of the film itself.
