Do you remember when I bantered on about the Kickstarter page that Joel Hodgson started to get funding for a few new "Mystery Science Theater 3000" episode/movies? And since then, I've passed along a few updates on the campaign and casting. I've been reporting on their return since early 2014.
(MST3K is the original, entertaining riffing series created by Joel Hodgson. After reading though this, check them out on Amazon.)
They were shooting for enough money to shoot a few new MST3K episodes but slipped in bonus episodes in case they got more than they needed for those three new ones.
Well, the project worked. In fact it worked so well that will they will be shooting 14 new episode movies and a holiday special.
But better than that... NETFLIX has picked up the series.
The Kickstarter campaign netted just over 48 thousand backers, with $5.7M. A record campaign for Kickstarter. Yep, the series is that popular.
The series cast will include Jonah Ray as the new host, Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt will play the mad scientists, with Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn voicing the sarcastic bots. Fans of Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt must love this casting.
Original cast members Mary Jo Pehl, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy will be making guest appearances.
Now... we just wait until Netflix announces when it will debut on their streaming service.
