And here we go again... yet another actor leaves the lead role of The Doctor. I swear, something must be afoot with working for that production, but the way the franchise is set up, it's immune to actor changes due to the peculiar and ingenious way of how they designed the lead character, with his regeneration skills.
Capaldi's statement upon his exit reads,
"One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best. From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead. I can’t thank everyone enough. It’s been cosmic."

Not sure if you've been following along, but we caught wind of Capaldi's potential exit back in July of 2016, when rumors started floating about that Matt Smith might be returning to the series.
Though, why, if he's having a decent career, run, but hey, the point of this was that back in July the news was in the wind.
Then in early December we heard another rumor that the BBC wanted to reinvigorate franchise sales by looking to hire younger stars for the role. Again, it was a rumor. Plus this rumor is in conflict with today's report saying that with Moffat leaving, they had asked Capaldi to stay.

Then in late December Capaldi himself hinted at when his time is over with the role.

So there you have it.
Capaldi is leaving. Now the rush and wave of conjecture is about to commence on who will be the next Doctor. At least for at least the next few years!
