News today is that Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter. The third (and now final) season of the show wrapped up production last week, so I'm presuming that after they filmed things, they may not have known that they were filming the series finale. While, more than likely, Syfy knew they were going to cancel the show while it was under production.
After the announcement of the cancellation, Joseph Mallozzi, who created the original content (a comic book) the show was based on, posted to social media a wee bit of a scathing post, saying,
"To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement… I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans. You all deserved better."
It seems like Syfy may have just lobbed a blind ball out there with the cancellation and didn't chat with the show runners beforehand.
