Universal's DARK UNIVERSE Is Dead, Jeremy Renner, THE GIFTED, THE ORVILLE And Much More

News and Other Static

See my latest movie reviews over on Brusimm...

Thor Ragnarok, and the surprisingly good horror flick, You're Next.

-

In case you missed it, Universal's Dark Universe, their Monster Cinematic Universe that they couldn't quite get off the ground successfully, has lost some key personnel and is on hold.

-

Setting the record straight: I don't know if you had heard, but there's a rumor that Jeremy Renner hurt himself while filming Avengers Infinity War. But, it seems, he was ON the Avengers SET with injured arms, but what had really happened was that he fractured his right elbow and left wrist while filming a stunt for a comedy film called Tag.  You have to love the media that jump the gun on things they see.

In case you're wondering about the new show on Fox, The Gifted, with producer Matt Nix, and where it fits in to this convoluted and screwed up set of timelines that Fox has accidentally created with their ten X-Men movies, well, especially after events of Days of Future Past showed that we can have any number of realities, The Gifted fits right in there, where nothing else does.

Nix said that the show takes place in one of those timelines where the X-Men are missing, along with a few different angles or versions of other characters, like Blink.

“The idea is that this is definitely its own universe. We’re not in the same exact timeline as any particular movie or comic, but that said we do share some characters with the movies and comics. The idea is we’re doing our own thing. As they say, there are many streams.”

I hate when studios lean so heavily on time traveling paradoxes and what not to make excuses for their shoddy work at keeping things straight. So to avoid any kind of complexities, studios are shoveling their products into their own little pocket universe and now, they don't have to explain anything else away as long as it fits into some kind of alternate time universe.

To be honest, the idea of The Gifted was alluring if you thought they existed on the sidelines with the big guns somewhere out there. But to have this sham of an excuse sort of makes it feel less enticing.

So what the hell is up with The Walking Dead? The last four episodes of this new season is seriously lacking in material.  OK, we get it, Rick and the gang have joined forces to fight off Neagan, but so far, we've been pretty much given four episodes of the same crap... shooting, running, more shooting, some biting, running, then more shooting and more biting.

I mean COME ON, Neagan stood right out there on his little patio to taunt Rick in the first episode and no sharp shooter or a single person with a gun took a shot at him while he stood there. Really?

And then, there was the shooting, running and biting that has gone on for a little too long. And seriously, all of a sudden Jesus gets all high and mighty and changes the plans to kill Saviors and now captures them?

Yes, this season of The Walking Dead is about to lose me.

Keep your eyes peeled, there's an e-mail scam going around saying your Netflix account is getting cancelled, and click the link to keep it active.

Buuut, if you actually follow the link and provide all the necessary information to "keep your account active," what you've just done is given your personal and credit information to some POS's on the other end.

REMEMBER, if you get an email that makes you worry, close/delete that email and go log in via an independent, new web session or call the service. Just saying.

HGTV is hitting us up with yet ONE MORE Fixer Upper type of show called Restoring Idaho. But they take the easy way out and work on houses around the Boise region, not all of Idaho, as the title might suggest. It will be a six episode series.

Look for it, March of 2018.  Or not.

-

Syfy's next Channel Zero season will be called Butchers Block and will air in early 2018. (Yep, yet another vague premiere date set in gooey stone by NBC's Syfy channel.)

UNORIGINAL, I Mean, REBOOT, I Mean, Revival News.

NBC is jumping on the CBS revival wagon. They've ordered a TV spin-off of Bad Boys.

In this case, this spin-off focuses on the Special Agent Syd Burnett character who moves from Miami to Los Angeles. But now as an LAPD detective, things get complicated when her new partner, Nancy McKenna, learns that Syd’s unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret.

It's being slapped together by the writers/producer gang that pumps ot The Blacklist.

RENEWALS Or Good News For...

The Orville got renewed for a second season! Nice. It's an interesting spin on being a Star Trek parady, where they have funny crap inserted among actual real stories that tackle real-world issues and what not.

It's almost too serious. As long as they keep that wit about the show, I'll keep watching!

Netflix renewed American Vandal for a second season.

-

Preacher got a third season renewal nod from AMC.

-

CBS has given the go-ahead for a second season of Star Trek Discovery!

CANCELLED or Sad News For...

--

HBO is dropping their Game Change miniseries. It was based on a book about the 2016 presidential election but one of the co-authors, Mark Halperin, is under fire for sexual abuse charges, sooo, HBO said see ya, we don't need your noise.

-

Netflix has dropped the hot rock, House of Cards, because of the pile up of accusations against Kevin Spacey, stemming from 1986 and up until present day or so.

Man, it's amazing how far up a pedestal we place people, all based on their pretend facade, only to be let down like a sack of hot potatoes.

-

Playing House was cancelled by USA. So no fourth season.
