But back on track:
I was seeing so many pitches for The Alienist that it felt like every other ad segment has some kind of teaser or behind the scenes bit about how incredible the show is.
In my book when a product gets pushed down your throat like this, it usually means the show or movie or mini-series will suck. But what marketing I've seen, the show does look like it may very well be pretty good. But then again, that is marketing, designed to make things look good.
Alienist (aka criminal psychologist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), New York Times society illustrator John Moore (Luke Evans) and secretary Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) are recruited to investigate in secret a series of murders of prostitutes in New York City by new police commissioner (and future president) Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty) in this adaptation of Caleb Carr's novel set in 1895.
The book, over on Good Reads, has a 4/5 star rating.
I'm going to wait for early reviews to see if I'm right or not. I'd be OK being wrong, but I know what I've seen, as I'm sure you are, right?
